The successful candidate must be a subject matter expert with hands-on experience supporting Primarily SYBASE and secondary on SQL Server/Oracle databases. The role is expected to work closely with DBAs on the team and various application development groups in productionizing and optimizing the database environment, provide assistance in physical & logical database design for the database platforms. Skill in Python, Perl/shell scripting and Powershellis a must in understanding and maintaining database scripts. Responsibility to provide after hour on-call production support coverage. Additional responsibility includes fulfilment of database requests and questions, troubleshooting and resolution of production and performance issues.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Install, monitor and maintain SYBASE ASE/Replication servers, implement monitoring and alerting, implement backup and recovery processes, provide system and SQL performance tuning and assist in business process integration with various data sources.
• Assess issues for severity, troubleshoot proactively and notify key stakeholders.
• Focus on service impact and timely resolution of critical system issues.
• Coordinate with external vendor technology support when required
• Fulfils user requests ranging from access control, backup, restore, refresh to non-production to performance tuning
• Production support for other RDBMS Platforms – MSSql, Oracle

Project based participation

• Participate in major upgrades and migration/consolidation exercises
• Creatively explore and implement new product features
• Actively contribute to the Performance Tuning and Engineering activities

Skills Required

• 6+ years of experience of Sybase ASE database administration is required
• Exposure to Sybase RepServer administration is required
• In depth understanding of database system and operations
• Strong Ability to analyze SQL query performance and suggest probable solutions.
• Strong Ability to analyze MDA tables, various cache usage, server logs and error interpretation
• Understanding of data replication across systems.
• Production support experience of Sybase ASE 12.x, 15.x, 16 and Replication Server
• 2+ years of experience as a DBA in other database platforms (Oracle/SQL) is highly desirable.
• Good understanding of Perl/shell scripting
• Good team player with a strong willingness to participate and help others.
• Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment.
• Excellent phone presence, high degree of professional acumen
• Strong communication skills and excellent listening skills
• Exposure or understanding of Postgres, MySQL , NoSQL database and cloud (AWS, Azure) is a big plus.
