ESG Investment Management (ESG IM) is part of the Portfolio Strategy & Risk Group (PSRG) that provides guidance on our strategic direction and portfolio objectives. ESG IM partners closely with teams across the Investment Group (IG) and the broader institution to advance ESG as a core engine across Temasek's global investments to strengthen portfolio resiliency and drive sustainability outcomes that go hand in hand with financial return. Specifically, ESG IM's areas of focus are as follows:

Deepening and expanding ESG integration to both manage risks and drive value creation across the portfolio
Integration of climate risks and opportunities and supporting portfolio transition to meet Temasek's climate goal to halve portfolio GHG emissions by 2030 (from 2010 baseline) and net zero by 2050
Incorporating ESG investment strategies and supporting targeted partnerships and sourcing to expand sustainability investments
Strengthening ESG data, analytics and tools that support investment decisions and ongoing monitoring of key ESG metrics and performance

Role Summary

ESG Investment Management is seeking to hire an experienced investment professional to drive ESG investment strategies and help expand sustainability investments. The individual will work closely with the MD of ESG IM and teams across IG, PSRG and the Sustainability Group to stay ahead of market trends, identify investment gaps and opportunities, and accelerate ESG and sustainability investment strategies that can strengthen portfolio resiliency and long-term sustainable returns.

Core Responsibilities


Analyse, drive and execute ESG related equity investment strategies such as ESG ETFs, carbon allowances, baskets and thematic investment opportunities
Partner with IG teams and the Sustainability Group to expand targeted networks, partnerships, and sourcing to accelerate capital deployment in sustainability investments
Identify, network, and establish partnerships with leading investors / research firms to stay ahead of and integrate emerging ESG investment signals and differentiated ESG investment frameworks / tools that continuously advance our ESG integration and investment strategies
Monitor ESG market trends across policy, technology cost curves, capital flows, etc. to identify and stay ahead of emerging ESG investment risks and opportunities and to identify investment gaps / opportunities
Lead internal presentations, business cases and proposals that support ESG / sustainability related investment decisions and informs investment teams on risks and opportunities

Professional Qualifications, Experience And Skills


Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Sustainability, or related areas; Master's degree or higher is preferred
At least ten years of experience in finance / investing with focus on ESG / sustainability related investing; experience in both public and private equity markets investing is a plus
Strong relationship building skills and established external ESG / sustainability network
Commercial judgment and strategic mindset with ability to look ahead at market trends and identify new opportunities
Excellent analytical skills and proficiency with financial models and platforms
Intellectual curiosity and thirst for ongoing learning with ability to transfer and apply know-how / investment insights across teams
Strong team player with intercultural awareness and ability to work across geographies and diverse teams
Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
Ability to influence and build consensus
Strong work ethic with demonstrated track record of initiating, driving, and executing across multiple initiatives
Flexible, adaptable, agile with ability to work hours that can extend across global time zones
