Infrastructure Strategy & Planning Manager at Amazon

Job Description

Description Are you interested in planning and creating the strategy behind where AWS launches new global cloud regions around the world? If so then you've come to the right place. AWS is continually evaluating new data center regions where we host our cloud computing services to serve our future Private and Public (government) sector customers. This role is responsible for the end-to-end Infrastructure planning for multiple new AWS public sector data center regions. Our Infrastructure Strategy and Planning teams plans both our Private and Public Sector new regions and data center builds in new geographies. The complexity of determining our launch strategies in a new location depends on a number of technical, financial, and local factors that need to be weighed and considered to determine the best approach, including timelines for delivery and the long term growth strategy to meet the AWS customer needs. Typical factors include launch footprint (size), expected demand, networking topology, and utility infrastructure delivery and costs. New region planning happens in coordination with our key infrastructure delivery teams, including Real Estate, Networking, Fiber, Construction, Energy, Water, Design & Engineering. This position is responsible for driving these internal stakeholder teams, collecting and evaluating stakeholder data, key decisions and driving executive recommendations on our global data center launches. You will also be expected to work closely with our finance planning teams in the development of the most strategic and financially viable solutions to support our growth trajectory. As you make recommendations, you will be expected to understand and draw conclusions from financial models to make sound, fact based final recommendations on our region launches. The role will include occasional domestic US and international travel, approximately 5-15% of the time. Planning and developing new regions is one of the broadest roles in the AWS Infrastructure organization as you will be expected to learn and know many of the different aspects of our infrastructure business including physical data centers, networks, hardware engineering, supply chain and capacity planning. This is your chance to be a part of a growing team and learn all aspects of AWS, which will carry through the rest of your career. Basic Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree in a technical or business related field (Mathematics, Engineering, CS, Business Administration), and/or 3+ years' experience working in data center product or program management and partnering with cross functional teams i.e. technical, commercial sales, policy, finance, and legal. 3+ years of working within the cloud computing/data center technical, engineering, or infrastructure field. 3+ years of project/program management experience, coordinating multiple stakeholder teams. Preferred Qualifications Excellent communication and writing skills. The ideal candidate will have both a business and technical background that enables them to drive engagement among the Infrastructure Technical teams, Commercial Sales, Policy, Finance, and Legal teams. Have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges. A combination of diplomacy, empathy and firm backbone in order to drive stakeholder engagement and buy-in, drive sound solutions, and deliver results. Ability to build and convey compelling value propositions at an executive level. Meets/exceeds Amazon's leadership principles requirements for this role. Meets/exceeds Amazon's functional/technical depth and complexity for this role. Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
