The Network Engineer is a member of the Global Datacenter, Backbones team that provides service and support to VMwareâ€™s Corporate and R&D departments. The team is responsible for designing, supporting and troubleshooting global datacenters and multiple global backbones that used to create VMware's products and supporting companyâ€™s day-to-day functioning based on cutting edge functionality. We are looking for a dynamic addition to this team. Traditionally a network engineer by day, but a technologist and a converged data center enthusiast by night! This quintessential network engineer will also be an aspiring server, storage, and virtualization weapon! This position isn't for the faint of heart! This is THE position of the future!! It is one that will require you to bring a wide range of networking experience to the table that requires expert level of L2/L3 networking, with a vendor agnostic approach. Some of the skills you should be prepared to bring should include STP/OSPF/VSS/VPC/TRILL/FabricPath/OSPF/VDC/OTV/MLAG/VLAG, and others. BUT, these skills should be not limited to a single vendor or technology as we must be able to support them all! In addition to these awesome networking skills, you will have the chance to refine/develop current virtualization skillsets AND those on the horizon!!! These technologies can be anything along the lines of server/hardware/ESX/ESXi/VC/VSPHERE/Hypervisor/OS/FC/NFS/SAN/FCOE/iSCSI and many others!!! Responsibilities Perform performance analysis, proactive troubleshooting, continual improvement and capacity planning of the network infrastructure for production, virtualized environments Deploy and maintain a production network infrastructure that requires 24/7/365 accessibility Participate in programs to deploy SDN technology, based on various vendor solutions and VMware products. Participate in integration programs in SDN technologies. Perform Tier 3 escalation functions for other teams, responsible for various network and telecom service areas Review entire environment and execute initiatives to reduce failures, defects and improving overall performance Work with other network engineers on maintenance of environment Perform tasks that are often unstructured and address issues that are less defined requiring new perspectives and creative approaches Collaborate with a team to improve network and communication Basic Qualifications Excellent oral and written communication skills; including documentation Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently to meet deadlines Ability to handle multiple complex tasks, with tight deadlines concurrently Demonstrate ability to perform well in a dynamic environment, with on-time delivery Demonstrate ability to write and present effective materials, including presentations, status reporting, technical diagrams and flowcharts Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance, and proposing solutions Ability to follow and adhere to policies, procedures and standards relating to network and systems management Ability to collaborate with global teams Capable of preparing detailed build / test plans to implement new technologies/configurations Ability to work a 24x7 on-call rotation schedule Apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving problems that are complex in scope requiring in-depth evaluation Preferred Qualifications 10+ years of experience supporting production network infrastructure 2+ years of experience with Linux operating systems is a plus 2+ years hands on experience with VMWare vSphere v4.x/v5.x Expert knowledge of network protocols and algorithms Knowledge of data storage protocols including CIFS, FC, FCoE, iSCSI, and NFS is a plus Experience with OSPF v3, and BGP v6 Experience with Cisco switches and routers; Brocade switches and routers; Extreme Networks switches (XOS) Experience with iptables, tcpdump/wireshark,etc. Experience with firewall implementations (layering, DMZ, SNAT/DNAT) Experience with Cisco ACL's, Juniper JunOS (SRX, GSS) Experience with bash/perl/python/PowerCLI a plus Experience with Cisco IOS, Brocade OS and Extreme Networks ExtremeXOS Knowledge of Red Hat, Centos, Ubuntu, and Windows operating systems a plus Cisco VSS / vPC, port-channels (N*10Gbps), trunking, and spanning tree (MST/PVST) Knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, HSRP/VRRP, OSPF v2, BGP v4, MPLS, and VRF Experience implementing and supporting dense core/edge networks Experience using Data Center routers and switches (Cisco 2800/2900/3500/3700/6500/7600) ASR 1000/9000 Capable of implementing IOS/NX-OS/ExtremeXOS/Brocade-OS configurations via CLI or central configuration management Desired Certifications VCP â€“ NV (VMware Certified Professional â€“ Network Virtualization) VCP5 â€“ DCV (VMware Certified Professional 5 â€“ Data Center Virtualization) VCA â€“ Cloud (VMware Certified Associate â€“ Cloud) CCIE R&S Written minimum (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert - Routing & Switching) ITIL Foundation V3 (Information Technology Infrastructure Library â€“ Foundation v3) Category : Engineering and Technology Subcategory: Network Engineering Experience: Manager and Professional Full Time/ Part Time: Full Time Remote: No Posted Date: 2020-10-20 Networking & Security: IT departments are spending more on security than ever before, but the damage caused by data breaches keeps getting worse.
