The DBA resource(s) personnel assigned must be a certified DB2 and/or MS-SQL Administrator in administration and troubleshooting, in a 24x7 enterprise setting (inclusive of manual discovery or post actions from automatic alerts). He/she is/are expected to cover level 1 and level 2 database related problems and must be an experienced DBA in the following areas but not limited to the following competencies:
- Database Analysis
- DB Performance analysis, tuning and optimization
- SQL Coding
- Database Migration
- Implementing database security features
- Practical knowledge of database backup and recovery
- Technical database documentation
- Perform daily health check on the database
- Verify database status and integrity at instances with application upgrade or at maintenance period (schedule/ad-hoc).
- Databases’ housekeeping/optimization activities including but not limited to:
- Highlight and ensure sufficient data growth. Create/reallocate DB files, tables, indexes, rollback segments, (auto)extent management and other database objects

Documentation
- Document daily checks and status.
- DBA shall develop (if not available) and update all necessary DB documentation (including checklist, operations manual and relevant changes to configuration settings) and shall include the DR setup.
- Monthly Repot for database size and DB Uptime and Performance
- Ad-hoc exception Report. This may pertain to non-standard reports as required for further incident /problem investigation, DB capacity planning or audit purposes.
Database Management
- New DB creations, database network configuration, determine/adherence to guidelines for database structures and file layout, review and enhance scripts and procedures. Proper handling of transaction and redo/archive logs
- Assist for database purging (to work closely with Solution Team to define the purging policy for each individual system), database re-indexing and database tuning if required.
- Daily review of log irregularities and follow-up actions (including other relevant parties)
- Maintain regular database maintenance schedule
- Proactive Performance monitoring to discover and detect from on-start, possible system anomalies which has or may possibly impact business operations as a result. This may largely refers to system resource usage, Basic CPU utilization, Disk I/O, Basic network I/O, memory utilization of database buffers, shared pool, memory cache, inefficient SQL, long running queries, in-doubt transactions, temporary table space usage, job query analysis, lock and latch analysis, alert log errors, availability of required start-up services/components and instances, low disk space/archive logs, blocking locks, core dump, interfaces and batch-jobs
- Backup, Recovery and replication. Monitoring backups/recovery and replication for successful completion, flat file space used to support archive logs
- Data Management
- Monitor object fragmentation, invalid objects and extent failure detection
- Perform Disaster Recovery (DR) for all the critical systems and ensure successful rebuilt of Production or DR servers after each DR should the need arise.
Incident/Problem Management.
- Incident detection and confirmation (of production database systems) arising from either monitoring or other means, shall include timely escalation to the Managed helpdesk, and the DBA onsite services on physical database facilities (where necessary, to rectify the incidents. In the event that a workaround or temporary resolution has been put in place, a separate approved date/time (after office hours) shall be proposed (with root cause analysis performed and presented) and scheduled, to roll-in the permanent fix.
- Verify and validate databases backup, recovery and replication status. Well-versed in troubleshooting, fine-tuning and resolving problems in such areas, as related to ensure the databases integrity.
- To review, improve and document the database administration and operations guide, on new or revised processes and procedures on a regular basis.
- Co-ordination activities. DBA shall work with Customer / Client, Service Desk and/or third-party solutions vendor in bringing a resolution/workaround to the degraded or disrupted service, rectifying the database integrity and returning the service to the users as quickly as possible, in order to minimize business impact . This shall also include instances when applications are undergoing update/upgrade.
Job Requirements
- Minimum - Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Information Systems/Computer Science, Business IT or other equivalent university degree.
- At least 5 years DB2 and MS-SQL Database support administration.
- Technical implementation
- Must have good understanding of a services business in a high tech environment from a supplier, integrator or operator’s point of view.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and achievement oriented.
- Excellent analytical and problem skills, combined with the ability to provide quick resolution to problems.
- Experience in database backup and disaster recovery implementation.
- Good knowledge in Windows and UNIX operating system.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are mandatory.
- Must be customer service oriented and believe in teamwork, collaboration, adaptability and initiative.
