Systems and Network Engineer (APAC, US tech firm)

Actual Title: Information Systems Engineer (functionally: Systems and Network Engineer )
Reporting to: Manager Infrastructure Operations
Responsibilities:
  • The Information Systems Engineer will assist in managing, maintaining and evolving  LAN/WAN, telephony, and Network services environments (such as file/print, directory, WINS/DNS) in accordance with current IT policy and procedures in the APAC region.
  • The Information Systems Engineer will be required to render IT Helpdesk support to employees working in the APAC region in accordance with current IT policy and procedures.
  • The Information Systems Engineer will assist in establishing and following processes to ensure a high degree of integrity, availability, manageability and security for all IT environments, and will collect and provide regular management information to accurately measure the growth, performance, availability, cost-effectiveness and quality of solutions.
  • The Information Systems Engineer will contribute vision, experience & support to the worldwide IT team, and view his position as critical to inter-office communication & to the delivery of critical business applications across the APAC region as well as the enterprise. He will champion tactical as well as strategic opportunities leading to improvement in the services managed or supported.
General day to day tasks:
  • The general day to day tasks will be to support and maintain all IS related systems and users in the APAC region. This includes: Wide Area Network, Voice/Telephony systems, Email facilities, LAN distribution; network services etc.
  • Also they will coordinate with regional offices all activities related to these services, gather performance data, manage vendor/carrier relations & billing, and develop & lead projects related to these services.
  • The Information Systems Engineer will proactively maintain up-to-date technology expertise by attending trade shows & seminars and maintaining close contact with vendors, to enhance and broaden his knowledge of networking & messaging technologies, emerging trends and cost-saving opportunities.
Qualifications:
The following are core competencies & life skills required for the job:
  • Experience with Internet based VPN solutions
  • Experience with a multitude of network routing and switching equipment. (Extreme, Cisco, Nortel)
  • Experience with PBX support and maintenance (Lucent, Nortel)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server technologies at the enterprise level
  • Comfort with Voice & Telephony (VOIP) concepts and PBX implementation/management
  • Experience with developing & documenting operational procedures and preparing technical documentation, diagrams and presentations
  • Experience in both Windows and Linux environments
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment, works well under occasional pressure, and demonstrate flexibility and effectiveness.
  • Contribute experience and expertise to a worldwide IS organization
  • Experience working in a Helpdesk environment supporting local and remote users
  • Available for occasional travel around the region.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Self-motivated & able to work in a professional environment with limited direct
supervision. Proactive by nature with a positive attitude and who works well in a team
setting
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is essential as you will be working closely with internal customers in the Asian market (Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong)
